BIO

Huw Flatau-Harrison is an Associate Professor in the Management Discipline Group (Faculty of Business and Law), and the former Discipline Group Leader for the teaching and research streams of organisational behaviour, management and leadership. Prior to assuming the Discipline Group Leader role, he was the inaugural Course Director and developer of the bespoke Bachelor of Human Resource Management (Psychology) degree. He is an endorsed Organisational Psychologist registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and Psychology Board of Australia, and completed a combined PhD and Master of Industrial and Organisational Psychology at The University of Western Australia.

His research examines the various psychological factors at work that influence employee and leader safety and wellbeing. He has published in several leading international peer-reviewed journals including Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, and Journal of Business Ethics. In addition he has presented at leading international (Academy of Management, US) and domestic (Industrial and Organisational Psychology, AU) conferences. He uses his professional registration as an Organisational Psychologist to actively explore opportunities for consultation and applied research with industry partners in healthcare, mining/oil & gas, and construction based settings.

His teaching focuses on leadership development as the co-unit chair of the capstone MBA unit MBA700 (The Deakin Advantage Leadership And Professional Development). To this end he was the co-recipient with Dr. Nicole Larson and Dr. Joshua Wood of the 2022 Deakin University Faculty of Business & Law Department of Management Teaching and Learning Award for his work in co-developing a bespoke 360 leadership development tool embedded in the unit assessment structure and learning outcomes.
