BIO

Brad Underhill is casual researcher and tutor/lecturer. He specialises in
Papua New Guinea-Australian history. In August 2021 Brad submitted his PhD
thesis, The New Deal on the Ground in Papua New Guinea. It was awarded the
Hank Nelson memorial prize for history in 2022 for best history on PNG in the
previous two years. This will be published as a book by ANU Press in early
2024. In 2017 his Honours thesis, Co-operative movements in Papua New Guinea,
was awarded the Vice-Chancellor's award for academic excellence. In 2017, he
was also presented with the Bowater Trust medal, best all-round undergraduate
student in the Deakin Business School: based on academic merit, community
service and ambassadorial qualities. Brad has published articles in the
Journal of Pacific History and the Australian Journal of Politics and History.
He is a guest editor for a Special Issue of Australian Historical Studies on
Remembering PNG (May 2024).

Brad was a member of the organising committee for the 2022 Australian
Historical Association conference and 2023 Pacific History Conference. Brad
works on a casual basis as a research assistant, the projects include: ARC
Linkage Australia's foreign aid since 1945: national values and aid
allocation; ARC Linkage on the History of the Cancer Council of Victoria.
