TEACHING EXPERTISE

Maddison is passionate about teaching sociology and encouraging students to think critically about the social world and their place within it. She has taught across a range of undergraduate Sociology units at Deakin University, with particular interests in youth, identity, social inequalities, intimate relationships and digital technologies.

Her teaching philosophy centres on making sociology accessible, engaging and relevant to students' everyday lives. Drawing on contemporary social issues, research and students' own experiences, she aims to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking and meaningful discussion.

Beyond the classroom, Maddison is committed to supporting students in their academic and professional development. She has experience co-supervising Honours research and particularly values the opportunity to mentor students, foster their confidence as emerging researchers and support them as they navigate the next stages of their academic and professional journeys.
