I'm interested in the power of story, particularly fictional stories, to encourage spiritual formation (understood as character formation). My current PhD research involves examining the Lost parables of Luke 15 to see how they go about generating a disorienting dilemma, the first stage of Mezirow's Transformation Learning Theory, in the minds of the reader/hearer, thereby kickstarting the process of transformational learning. My research therefore involves educational theory and New Testament interpretation.
