Imriyas Kamardeen is a Professor of Construction Management at Deakin University's School of Architecture and Built Environment. A distinguished academic with extensive experience in both academia and industry, he is recognised for his leadership in academic programs, research, and teaching. He has received eight awards for excellence in these areas.

Internationally recognised for his research, Imriyas specialises in developing digital methods using fuzzy knowledge-based systems, data mining, machine learning, and mobile computing for addressing construction management challenges. His recent work includes digital solutions for workplace safety and psychological well-being, social sustainability, and construction education. He has authored seven scholarly books, over 100 research articles, and developed several digital system prototypes on these topics. He has also supervised several PhDs and Masters by Research to completion on these themes.


Imriyas served as the Head of Construction Management at Deakin from 2019 to 2024 and the Chief Editor of the Construction Economics and Building journal from 2015 to 2023. Before joining Deakin, he spent over 12 years at UNSW Australia, securing significant research funding and supervising PhD and MRes students. He also led the Construction Management and Property Discipline at UNSW, earning multiple awards for research and teaching excellence.

Beyond academia, Imriyas has experience as a construction cost consultant, including work with the World Bank in Sri Lanka. His global experience enables him to integrate theory with practice, providing students with authentic learning experiences and producing impactful research.
