BIO

Dr Abid Hasan, PhD, FHEA, is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Architecture and Built Environment at Deakin University. He holds a PhD in Construction Management from the University of South Australia (now Adelaide University), a Master of Technology in Construction Technology and Management from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), and a Bachelor of Technology (Honours) in Civil Engineering from Aligarh Muslim University.

Before pursuing an academic career, Dr Hasan gained valuable industry experience in the construction and energy sectors. He began his professional career with Larsen & Toubro Ltd., one of India's largest construction and engineering organisations, before joining Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), a Fortune 500 and Forbes Global 2000 company, where he worked for more than four years. He subsequently relocated to Australia to pursue doctoral studies and an academic career.

At Deakin University, Dr Hasan teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate construction management programs and is a Fellow of Advance HE (UK), in recognition of his sustained commitment to excellence in higher education. His teaching philosophy centres on authentic, industry-connected learning that prepares students to thrive in an increasingly complex and technology-driven construction sector. He is particularly passionate about enhancing graduate employability by embedding real-world industry challenges, professional skills development, and work-integrated learning experiences into the curriculum. One of his graduate employability case studies was featured in the 2026 Thought Leader Case Studies Series published by Advance HE, highlighting his work in creating meaningful, impactful learning experiences for built environment students. He also contributes to advancing teaching excellence across the university as a member of the Deakin University Higher Education Academy (HEA) Fellowship Assessment Panel, where he evaluates applications for professional recognition against the Advance HE Professional Standards Framework.

Dr Hasan's research addresses critical challenges in the construction industry, with particular expertise in occupational health and safety, workplace well-being, gender equity, productivity, project success, and human-technology interaction. His research has made significant contributions to both academia and industry practice. He has co-authored two books published by Routledge: Construction Company Management and Occupational Diseases in the Construction Industry. His scholarly output includes more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and conference papers. He also served as Lead Editor for the special issue on Health and Well-being in Construction Innovation and regularly reviews manuscripts for leading international journals in construction management. In addition, he contributes to the academic community through his involvement in organising and technical committees for national and international conferences.

Dr Hasan has held several leadership and service roles within Deakin University and the broader profession. He served as Graduate Research Coordinator for the School of Architecture and Built Environment from 2023 to 2026 and was a member of the Deakin University Academic Board from 2022 to 2025. Since 2023, he has served on the Education Committee of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Victoria Chapter, supporting initiatives that advance education, diversity, and inclusion within the construction sector. He also serves as a Research Integrity Adviser within the School, providing guidance on responsible and ethical research practices.
