BIO

Dr Md Abdullah Al Faruque is an Associate Research Fellow at the Deakin Institute for Frontier Materials (D-IFM), Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment (SEBE), Deakin University. He is a translational textile researcher specialising in sustainable textile manufacturing, fibre processing, textile colouration, and circular textile innovation. His research bridges fundamental science with industrial application to develop practical solutions that support Australia's transition to a circular fibre economy while advancing sustainable and resilient textile manufacturing.

His expertise encompasses fibre blending and spinning, yarn and fabric manufacturing, textile dyeing and colouration, textile testing, process optimisation, and textile recycling, with a particular focus on natural fibres and fibre blends. Working within Deakin's Future Fibres Facility and the ARC Research Hub for Future Fibres, he develops scalable, industry-ready technologies that address complex manufacturing challenges and deliver environmental, economic, and societal benefits.

Dr Al Faruque has established strong collaborations with leading Australian and international industry partners, including Michell Wool, Eqwools, FibreTrace, CHT, Archroma, and textile manufacturers across Australia and overseas. His research has successfully translated into industrial-scale implementation, including the development of innovative cotton–wool processing and dyeing technologies that have supported commercial manufacturing and strengthened partnerships between academia and industry. His broader research interests include advanced textile manufacturing, circular product development, sustainable fibre technologies, textile process optimisation, and research translation for industrial innovation.

Beyond research, Dr Al Faruque is committed to developing research capability by mentoring higher degree research students, postdoctoral researchers, research staff, and users of the Future Fibres Facility. He actively contributes to research leadership and knowledge exchange through industry engagement, collaborative research, conference presentations, invited seminars, and representation of Deakin University at national initiatives such as Science Meets Parliament. He also serves as Chair of the Future Fibres Hub Events and Seminar Committee and contributes to the University's research community through leadership, safety, and operational service roles.
