BIO
I've been a teacher pretty much all of my working life - commencing as a secondary teacher in English and Humanities, moved state and sector to work in Primary schools and since 2009 have increased my involvement at Deakin as a seminar leader.
I've worked with our B.Ed (Primary) and M.Teach pre-service teachers across curriculum and pedagogy units.
Now I hold the position of Education Focused Academic - a new category which has a strong focus on excellent in teaching and the scholarship of teachng and learning.
Schools and teaching are in a volatile period, with plenty of opinions form the media and polticians. The voice of teachers are all too often silenced because they're busy getting on with the job of educatiing children.
Getting involved in my research
I'm half way through a PhD - with the theme of paradoxical practices in teaching. If you've landed on this site because of a shout-out on Social Media or a friend sent you here - thank you for making it this far.
Paradoxes are challenging; teachers might feel the affect of a paradox without explicitly identifying the cause. A paradox is defined as the simultaneous presence of contradictions that are mutually co-dependent and interrelated (e.g less is more) - in which case, teaching and education are full of them.
I'm very keen to hear what your experience of the contradictions and tensions – paradoxes - in education might be.
