Professor Matthews is from a multi-disciplinary construction background, holding a PhD and a first-class honours degree in Architecture and post-
graduate qualifications in mathematics, computing, and environmental studies. She is currently employed as a Professor of Digital Construction in the School of Architecture and Built Environment at Deakin University and has specialist expertise in Digital Engineering. Since joining academia in late 2009, she has been a recipient of over 1.5 million Technology Strategy Board (TSB) research funding (UK). She is an active researcher on several projects focused on designing and using integrated collaborative digital information modelling and management systems. She is currently Chief Investigator on an ARC Discovery grant (DP210101281), exploring mechanisms for containing and reducing rework in mega transport projects. Her role on this project is to analyse and propose data structures and digital information sharing processes across design and construction to enable better management of rework.
