ProfessorAnne Wyatt

Anne has a First Class Honours degree with University Medal, and a PhD from University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Anne is a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand in recognition of service, and a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She sat on the 'National Education Board' of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia and held the role of Chair for the 'Financial Reporting Committee' that oversees the CA financial reporting curriculum for several years. Anne specialises in teaching financial statement analysis, forecasting, and equity valuation. Her teaching philosophy centres on employability-orientated content design and active learning pedagogies that empower students to be engaged and proactive learners.

Anne is an Associate Editor for the prestigious Journal of Business Finance and Accounting and sits on the boards of several journals including Accounting and Business Research and Abacus. She has published in the top North American accounting journal (The Accounting Review) and many other quality journals with regular invitations to present work in Australia, Europe and the US. Anne has an established international network and is versatile in her research interests across accounting, economics, finance and law related issues. Anne builds teams, collaboration, and effective communication channels that allow for early identification and solving of problems. Her leadership philosophy is to build trust and empower colleagues in their areas of strength and fit with the organisational mission.

Professor Wyatt has a First-Class Bachelor of Commerce Honours Degree and University Medal, and a PhD that was on the UTS Chancellor's List of Excellence. Anne has wide leadership, teaching, research and service experience across a range of institutions with different teaching and research specialisations including the Cloudbased platforms and technological pedagogies employed by Deakin University, University of Southern Queensland specialisation in high-quality distance learning, the wide research and cultural diversity of the University of Adelaide. The strong research cultures of the University of Melbourne and University of Queensland, and the international researcher connected culture of University of Technology Sydney.

Anne is a Chartered Accountant Fellow and a Graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). Having come to academia with various industry experience, she is acutely aware of the importance of strong professional body and industry links for business disciplines.

Anne has taught across all areas of financial accounting including Honours and PhD courses, and in recent years has specialised in financial statement analysis and equity valuation. She is passionate about teaching and recognises the gravity of the responsibility we have as educators of future generations. Her teaching philosophy embraces active learning pedagogies, content that challenges students accompanied by guidance to navigate those challenges, and an over-arching goal to help students work towards being professional and proactive learners.

Anne was a founding Research Associate of the Intellectual Property Research Institute of Australia at the Melbourne Institute at University of Melbourne. Anne has worked with IP Australia and intellectual property accountants and attorneys to develop IP webinars for CPA Australia members. Anne maintains a diverse range of national and international affiliations of a professional and academic nature (e.g., the American Accounting Association, Australian Shareholders' Association, British Accounting and Finance Association, the European Accounting Association, AICD and FIRN). At Deakin, significant service includes Anne's leadership role (along with Dr Leanne Ngo) in delivering a new CA Foundations in a highly sophisticated technological communications package. This was a huge project involving about a 150 staff across Deakin from different divisions (e.g., eSolutions project managers, enterprise architects/analysts/software engineers/others, student engagement and service now teams, Exams, Digital Platforms, Deakin Learning Futures, Faculty of Business and Law academic teams, Academic Quality co-ordinators, Business Services, and Learning innovations).

Anne has published sole authored and joint work in The Accounting Review and published papers covering a range of interests in many other high-quality journals. Recognising her expertise in the intangibles area, she was invited by the Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW) to write and present a paper on intangibles for the ICAEW's prestigious 'Information for Better Markets' conference in London. She was invited faculty to the American Accounting Association Doctoral Consortium. Anne was invited to join the Best Dissertation Committee for the Financial Accounting and Reporting Section of the American Accounting Association. She has undertaken commissioned research and reports for public and private sector organisations (e.g., European Commission), and invited speaker (e.g., at the Said Business School, Oxford University for the inaugural IASB-Accounting and Business Research Forum with the International Accounting Standards Board in conjunction with Accounting and Business Research). Professor Wyatt holds national and international journal editorships for high quality academic journals.
