BIO
Joe Malibiran, a doctoral researcher in the School of Architecture and Built Environment at Deakin University, is nearing completion of his PhD in Work Integrated Learning (WIL). His extensive experience in the WIL space, both through his research and professional work, has enabled him to effectively bridge the gap between theory and practice in WIL. In his research, Malibiran has actively collaborated with academics, students, and industry organisations to co-design WIL programs that lead to mutually beneficial outcomes.
At the outset, Malibiran has consistently been passionate about aligning university education with industry practices to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry demands. Prior to commencing his doctoral studies, he completed an honours degree in Construction Management, with a thesis on identifying the ‘enablers’ that promote the advancement of an industry-aligned education in building and construction disciplines. He has further nurtured this passion through his doctoral studies. Committed to bridging this gap, his research proposes what may be referred to as a 'benefits realisation approach' to WIL, centred around developing a framework designed to bridge gaps for the benefit of all stakeholders.
