DrAmrita Kamath

Dr Amrita Kamath is a Lecturer in Science and Environmental Education at Deakin University whose teaching and research are informed by a strong transnational perspective, shaped through educational, professional, and research experiences across Asia, US, and Australia. Her research explores innovative approaches to education that foster teacher and student agency through context-responsive pedagogies. Amrita draws on her broad and diverse classroom teaching experience to translate research into practice, supporting teachers to design and implement contextually relevant and globally connected learning experiences.

Amrita's disciplinary expertise and impact is evidenced through her broad qualifications and work across multiple collaborative projects with international partnerships. With six degrees spanning three countries; PhD and Master of Teaching from Deakin University (Australia), Master of Education from Framingham State University (USA), Master of Applied Medical Sciences, Bachelor of Life Sciences, and Bachelor the Education from the University of Mumbai (India), Amrita brings a rich understanding of how educational practices, policies and curricula are shaped across diverse cultural and institutional contexts.  

Beyond her teaching and research, Amrita contributes to scholarly leadership and academic service through initiatives like serving as the Editorial Assistant for the Australian Journal of Environmental Education,  co-convenor for Deakin University's Mathematics, Science, Environmental and Technology Education (MSET-Ed) Research Group. ITE Panellist for the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership and an invited senior judge for the Australian Science Teachers Association's ASTA awards.
