BIO

Dr Eva Yuen is a Senior Research Fellow with the Quality and Patient Safety Research-Monash Health Partnership, a joint position between Monash Health and Deakin University. Her programs of research aim to optimise health literacy, communication and decision-making, supportive care and health outcomes for people with cancer and their caregivers. Dr Yuen’s research includes a focus on priority populations, including people living in rural and regional areas, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.

Dr Yuen developed the first conceptual model and measurement tool of cancer caregiver health literacy which has been translated into several languages. She recently adapted a communication skills training module for Australian caregivers when interacting with health providers; pilot study findings showed improved health literacy, communication confidence, preparedness for caregiving and depression symptoms in caregivers following intervention. She is developing an e-learning package for cancer nurses to optimise culturally responsive communication with CALD patients and families. Together, this work contributes to her program of applied research that aims to transform lives and communities by enhancing person-centred communication to improve the health and wellbeing of all people affected by chronic disease.

Dr Yuen is available for Honours, Masters, and PhD supervision.
