DrAlessandro Crocetti

Dr Alessandro Crocetti is a Research Fellow at Deakin's Centre for Global for Preventive Health and Nutrition (GLOBE). His research examines how commercial systems and practices shape health, wellbeing and health equity, including the pathways through which commercial actors exert influence.

He currently works on the NHMRC funded project Addressing Commercial Health determinants: Indigenous Empowerment and Voices for Equity (ACHIEVE), an Aboriginal-led research programme examining the commercial determinants of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing. His research spans multiple industries, including food, alcohol, tobacco, mining and media, with particular attention to commercial practices such as marketing, corporate social responsibility and political practices.

A growing focus of his work is on digital commercial environments, particularly how social media, influencer-generated content and the promotion of unhealthy products shape health and wellbeing among young people. More recently, his research has expanded to examine the commercial determinants of masculinities, exploring how commercial actors and digital platforms shape masculine norms and identities, boys’ and young men’s health and wellbeing, and the implications for the health and safety of women and girls.
