DrHannah Jarman

Dr Hannah Jarman is a Senior Research Fellow in the School of Psychology at Deakin University. Her research examines the complex, far-reaching influences of social media on body image and eating disorders, with a particular focus on the development and evaluation of technology-enabled prevention and intervention efforts among young people.

She is the Chief Investigator on a Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF)–funded project evaluating the effectiveness and implementation of a whole-of-school body image program developed in partnership with the Butterfly Foundation. She has also been awarded an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) to examine the impact of social media on young people’s wellbeing.

Hannah is passionate about research translation and stakeholder engagement and regularly works with charities, schools, and policymakers to develop and disseminate evidence-based resources. She is also the co-founder and Chair of the National Taskforce for Social Media, Body Image, & Eating Disorders, which brings together researchers, clinicians, lived-experience advocates, and eating disorder organisations to address social media–related harms through evidence-informed policy and practice. 

Her contributions have been recognised through several awards, including the Victorian Premier’s Award for Health and Medical Research (Public Health Researcher Award 2026), the Australian Institute of Policy and Science Young Tall Poppy Science Award (2025), and Deakin University’s Vice-Chancellor’s Early Career Researcher Award (2025).
