BIO

Dr Jakub Mesinovic is a member of the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN) at Deakin. He completed his Bachelor of Science (Honours) at the University of Melbourne and Doctor of Philosophy at Monash University in 2022. Jakub was awarded an Executive Dean Health Research Fellowship at Deakin University in 2023 to investigate the efficacy of novel digital technologies for remotely delivering evidence-based exercise and weight loss prescriptions to older adults with obesity and type 2 diabetes. Jakub has significant expertise in musculoskeletal imaging (dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry and [high-resolution] peripheral quantitative computed tomography) and delivering exercise and dietary interventions. He has conducted several clinical trials and meta-analyses exploring the effects of vitamin D, caloric restriction and/or resistance and aerobic exercise on metabolic and musculoskeletal health in older adults with obesity. Jakub’s research focuses on further understanding the relationship between metabolic and musculoskeletal health, and investigates how they are affected by different exercise and dietary interventions, in older adults with obesity.
