RESEARCH INTERESTS
Professor Bright's research interests include criminal networks, organised crime, terrorism, drugs and crime, and desistance from crime. He is an internationally recognised expert in the use of social network analysis and related approaches to study organised criminal groups, gangs, and terrorist groups. He is Chief Investigator on four current Category One Grants:
Analysing and disrupting outlaw motorcycle gangs in Australia (ARC Discovery)
Using network science analytics for identifying, anticipating, and disrupting covert threats (National Intelligence and Security Discovery Grant)
Consolidating intelligence data to identify victims of child sexual abuse (ARC Linkage)
Reducing Aboriginal imprisonment: An offence-specific study (ARC Discovery)
He is also conducting research projects on:
- co-offending networks and geospatial characteristics
- illicit firearms trafficking
- illicit tobacco markets in Australia
