BIO

Dr Toby Ross is an Associate Research Fellow in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences at Deakin University. His research focuses primarily on ecotoxicology, disease ecology, movement ecology, population dynamics, and statistical modelling, largely focusing in the broader field of ornithology. He is also an experienced field ecologist, with over eight years of hands-on experience in bird handling and field-based research. 

 

During his PhD, he collaborated extensively with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). He is now working alongside the University of Queensland on a National Environmental Science Program (NESP) project focused on habitat management for migratory shorebird conservation. His research has been published in several leading journals, including Science of the Total Environment, Environmental Research, and Journal of Hazardous Materials.

 

Alongside his research, Toby has five years of teaching experience across nine university units in both Australia and NZ, and is passionate about mentoring students. He is motivated by a deep interest in understanding the natural world and addressing the challenges that human activities pose to biodiversity. Toby strongly values international and interdisciplinary collaboration and is committed to making science accessible through effective communication.
