BIO

Kate Mannell is a Research Fellow in the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child. Her research examines everyday digital technology use, particularly among families and youth. Mannell’s book, Screen Time and the Impossibility of Modern Parenting (Routledge, 2026), analyses how popular discourse about young children and screens is shaped by unsustainable parenting ideals, and how this discourse could be changed. Her current projects span parenting culture, social media, child health communication, and youth media practices. She has published articles in New Media & Society, Journal of Children and Media, and Social Media + Society. Her research has been covered by outlets including The Atlantic, the BBC, The Guardian, and ABC Radio National.
