Associate ProfessorColin Campbell

Deputy Dean, Deakin Law School.

Colin Campbell is an Associate Professor in the Deakin Law School. His research focuses on Anti-Discrimination Law and Administrative Law. He holds Masters degrees from the Universities of Melbourne and Cambridge, and a doctorate in law from Cambridge, where I was a W.M. Tapp Scholar (full PhD scholarship recipient) at Gonville & Caius College.

He has authored or co-authored articles that have been published in several of the common law world's pre-eminent law journals, including the Modern Law Review, the Law Quarterly Review (twice), the Cambridge Law Journal (twice), and the University of Toronto Law Journal. He is the co-editor of Australian Charters of Rights, A Decade On (Federation Press, 2017) and the co-author of Emergency Powers in Australia (Cambridge University Press (England), 2nd ed.2018). A new edition of the edited Charter book will be published in late 2026 or 2027.

At Deakin, he has taught Administrative Law and Torts. In his academic career to date, he has supervised to completion over 20 Honours theses and 8 PhD theses. He is currently co-supervising three PhD theses at Deakin. 

He is currently Deputy Dean of Deakin Law School, and and, since arriving at Deakin in late 2021,  have served as:

• the Convenor of the Law School's Honours Program (T3 2021 -T3 2023)
• the Director of the Law School's LLB Course (T1 2024)
• the Acting Director of the School's JD Course (Periods of T3 2023 and T2 2024)
• the School's Deputy Associate Head of School-Teaching and Learning (T2 2024)
• the School's Associate Head of School, Teaching and Learning T1 2025-T3 2025)

Colin is the founder of the Law School's Academic Excellence Program, which he ran from 2023-2025. He is a member of Law School Executive and the Faculty of Busieness and Law Executive and Board. 

Since T1 2025, Colin has been a member of the Uinversity's Academic Board. Since T1 2026 he has been Chair of the University's Appeal Committee.
