BIO

Professor Giallo leads a productive life course epidemiological and clinical intervention research program focused on optimising the mental health of children and families affected by social adversity and intergenerational trauma. She is particularly passionate about men's health in early fatherhood, and family-based interventions in the early years of children's lives to prevent and disrupt intergenerational cycles of poor health within families. This work has been enabled by partnerships with community health services supporting children and their families. Professor Giallo's research is informed by 10 years' experience as a psychologist working with children and families in educational, hospital and community health settings.

Professor Giallo is the Co-Deputy Director of SEED-Lifespan Research Centre. Since the award of her PhD in 2005, Professor Giallo has been awarded over $23 million in research funding, and her scholarship in child and family health has been recognised with a NHMRC Career Development Fellowship (Level 1) in 2016, and Visiting Scientist Award to the University of Calgary. She has published 175 peer reviewed publications, and her research has contributed to: Australian health inquiries including the Royal Commission into Family Violence (2015) and Royal Commission into Mental Health (2019), health policy and practice including the Perinatal Mental Health Care Guidelines (2017), National Men's Health Strategy (2018), and Australian Pregnancy Care Guidelines (2020).

Professor Giallo is particularly passionate about supporting the development of Australia's next generation of early career researchers (ECRs). She has mentored 17 ECRs, and supervised 23 HDR students and 24 4th year students.
