BIO
I am an Associate Professor of Law (Intellectual Property) at the Deakin Law School and Deputy Convenor of the Deakin Science and Society Network. This Network supports the development of science-literate social research across the University and beyond. My research uses quantitative empirical methods to challenge assumptions that underlie the law. I have a particular focus on the intersection between patents and gender and between trade marks and race.
I also have a passion for teaching and won the University’s Teacher of the Year Award (2022) and the Law Schools’ Teaching Excellence Award (2022). I have taught a wide variety of units including: IP law, property law, corporations law, foundations of law, and marketing law. I have created and taught new units in cyber law and international fashion law (the latter for the National Uni. of Singapore).
Prior to joining academia, I dual qualified as an Australian lawyer and a US attorney and worked in private practice in those jurisdictions. I was an Associate (Research) to the Hon. Justice Finkelstein at the Federal Court of Australia.
