BIO

Saman A. Gorji is an Associate Professor of Electrical and Renewable Energy Engineering in Deakin University’s School of Engineering and Director of its Centre for Smart Power and Energy Research (CSPER). His work includes power-electronic converters, microgrid control, battery integration, grid-forming inverters and green hydrogen. At Deakin, he leads industry-linked projects on battery integration and renewable microgrids, using the Renewable Energy Microgrid for system testing.

He holds a PhD in electrical engineering from Swinburne University of Technology and previously held research positions there and at Queensland University of Technology. At QUT, he contributed to the electrical design of the ARENA H2Xport hydrogen pilot and led the fully DC microgrid research within a Future Energy Exports CRC project on green hydrogen production. He has supervised four PhD candidates to completion and currently supervises doctoral research in power and energy systems.

He is a Fellow of Engineers Australia and the Higher Education Academy, and a Senior Member of IEEE. He received a CSIRO International Hydrogen Research Fellowship in 2024 and the 2025 Excellence in Industry-Engaged Project Delivery Award from Deakin’s Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment. During his doctoral studies, he received IEEE Best Paper Awards from the Victorian Section, the Australian Council and Region 10 Asia-Pacific.
