BIO

Ms Anna Brownfield is a filmmaker and lecturer specialising in film and video production with over 20 years teaching and learning experience in higher education.

 

Her research has been published in screen industry publications and mainstream magazines.  However, most of her research is practice-based filmmaking.

 

Since graduating from RMIT Media Arts (1996) with Honors in Visual Communications (1997) Anna has worked as Director and Producer and her work has gained extensive media attention.

 

Her first feature The Money Shot closed the 2005 Melbourne Underground Film Festival and won Best Director, Screenplay, and Actor.  Her second feature, The Band screened at Cannes Film Market, opened the Berlin Porn Film Festival (2009), sold to numerous territories, and won “Hottest Feature” at the Feminist Porn Awards (2010, Canada).

 

Making it Handmade!, a feature documentary, premiered at Melbourne International Film Festival 2010, and premiere on ABC2 in 2011.

 

Her third feature, The Bedroom opened the Berlin Porn Film Festival, 2016 and has screened at festivals in Switzerland, Italy, USA, and Brazil. Anna won Best Director at the Toronto International Porn awards and SuzyForever award for Direction at Pop Porn Film Festival.

 

Her documentary, Wicked Women screened on ABC iView. Funded by ABC, Screen Australia and Film Victoria, it screened at queer film festival in Australia, France, Italy, Germany, Greece, Switzerland, and BFI Flare London.

 

After Wicked Women, she made documentary entitled A Big Life, funded by Screen Australia and MQFF.  It premiered at MQFF and screened in competition at Iris Prize, Wales, Antenna International Documentary Film Festival and Mardi Gras Film Festival. 

 

Currently she is in production on a feature documentary called Conception Vs Creation about controversial performance artist Casey Jenkin’s work Immaculate.
