BIO
Yi (Owen) Wang is a PhD candidate in the School of Information Technology at Deakin University, Australia. He received his Bachelor of Information Technology with a major in Interaction Media Design from Deakin University, followed by a Bachelor of Information Technology (First Class Honours), where his thesis on Virtual Reality Enabled Human-Centric Requirements Engineering received the Best Thesis Award.
His research examines how accessibility and inclusion can be systematically embedded into the design and development of virtual and extended reality technologies. Drawing on Human–Computer Interaction, Software Engineering, and Human-Centred Requirements Engineering, his work investigates how the needs of people with disabilities and diverse users can be identified, represented, and translated into actionable requirements for immersive systems. His research combines empirical studies of VR practitioners and end users, persona-based design methods, and AI-assisted accessibility evaluation to support more inclusive VR/XR design, education, and development practices.
Owen serves the international research community across leading HCI, VR/XR, and Software Engineering venues. He has reviewed for ACM CHI, IEEE VR, IEEE ISMAR, ICSE, ASE, UIST, and OzCHI. He was recognised as an Outstanding Reviewer for ACM CHI 2025, served as an Associate Chair for the ACM CHI 2026 Poster Track, and serves as Publicity Chair for IEEE VR 2027. He also reviews for journals including ACM TOSEM, ACM TACCESS, IEEE TVCG, Design Studies, Journal of Systems and Software, Information and Software Technology, and CCF Transactions on Pervasive Computing and Interaction.
