BIO

I am currently a full-time third-year PhD student at Deakin University. My academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Wollega University and a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from Debre Markos University, Ethiopia. With over five years of experience as a lecturer at the university level in Ethiopia, I have also actively engaged in various community services, research activities, student advising, and practical attachments in hospitals and health centres, facilitating the training of medical students.

My PhD research is titled “Maternal Healthcare and Its Costs: Effects on Adolescent Birth Outcomes in Sub-Saharan Africa”. Within this broader project, I have investigated the effects of ANC utilisation, quality, and cost on adverse birth outcomes among adolescent women in Sub-Saharan Africa. I have also explored disparities in birth outcomes between adolescent and non-adolescent women. To address these research questions, I have employed different advanced statistical approach, including meta-analysis, multilevel modeling using large-scale datasets (over 180,000 sample size from DHS data), inequality analysis, spatial analysis, and mediation analysis.

Additionally, I have authored and co-authored more than 75 research articles in reputable peer-reviewed journals. I have been serving as associate editor of BMC Reproductive Health since Novembre 2023. Regarding my statistical background, I have strong experience in using statistical method such as linear regression, logistic regression, Poisson regression, survival analysis, multilevel analysis, Spatial analysis, mediation analysis, Decomposition analysis and analysis of repeated data measurement.
