  • COURSE DIRECTOR
    Defence Diplomacy
    This unit focuses specifically on the conduct of diplomacy by defence, and how this form of diplomacy can effectively contribute towards national interests. Students will examine case studies of defence diplomacy, engage with experienced current and former practitioners, and assess the role of the military in conducting diplomacy.
  • COURSE DIRECTOR
    International Diplomacy and Multilateralism
    This unit focuses on the role of diplomacy in international politics today as well as the factors that shape the effectiveness of diplomatic practice. Students will learn about the current international system which forms the background for all diplomatic and multilateral initiatives, the specific diplomatic and multilateral mechanisms that exist, and Australia’s current approach to diplomacy and engagement in existing multilateral institutions.

    Peace Operations, HADR and Stabilisation Operations
    The aim of this unit is to develop students understanding of Military Operations Other Than War. This includes peace and stabilisation operations and international Humanitarian and Disaster Relief efforts.

    Students in this elective will consider Australia’s identity and culture, its national power and capabilities, and its political system and assess how these factors impact Australia’s approach to security.
