BIO
My work explores social inequality and in/exclusion of sexual and gender minorities, examined primarily through the lens of sport participation.
My current Australian-based project, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, explores the impact of women’s participation in powerlifting, a traditionally male-dominated sport, on health and wellbeing by considering shifting embodied relationalities during a period of rapid transformation in sport cultures. The project draws on data collected from 41 interviews with Australian women who powerlift.
Previously, I've examined: social in/exclusion of LGBTQ+ sport fans in men's sport fandom; anti-trans activism, specifically regarding attempts to exclude trans women from women's sport; the impact of embodied participation in amateur sport regarding the formation of national community.
