BIO

Dr Nantanit (Rainie) van Gulik RN PhD is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Quality and Patient Safety (QPS) Research – Eastern Health Partnership, within the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Deakin University. Her research focuses on improving patient safety, infection prevention and control (IPC), antimicrobial stewardship, and the quality of care across healthcare and aged care settings, aligning with the strategic priorities of the Institute for Health Transformation (IHT), QPS, and Eastern Health.

 

Dr van Gulik is a registered nurse in both Australia and Thailand, with more than 20 years of combined clinical, education, and research experience. Her clinical expertise is in infection prevention and control, having worked as an infection control nurse specialist, clinical nurse educator, and registered nurse across diverse healthcare settings.

 

She completed her PhD at Deakin University in 2018 through the Centre for Quality and Patient Safety Research – Epworth Healthcare Partnership. Her doctoral research explored nursing roles in antimicrobial stewardship through a Thai case study, contributing important insights into nursing leadership in antimicrobial resistance and patient safety.

 

Prior to joining Deakin University as a Research Fellow, Dr van Gulik worked at Ramathibodi School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, Thailand, where she gained extensive experience in both academia and clinical practice, including lecturing and training undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students.

 

Since completing her PhD, Dr van Gulik has led and collaborated on a range of interdisciplinary research projects focused on infection prevention and control, antimicrobial stewardship, healthcare-associated infections, aged care, patient safety, and quality improvement. Her work aims to translate evidence into practice to improve healthcare outcomes for patients, older people, families, and healthcare professionals.
