Gemma Martinez Laiz is a Postdoctoral researcher at University of Seville
(Spain) and visiting academic for a year at Deakin University (Australia).
Gemma's research focuses on socioecological aspects of marine biosecurity, and
she's currently investigating public perceptions on biological invasions
associated to recreational boating. Ultimate goals are informing effective
environmental education strategies and fair regulations for pest control
across the boating sector

Gemma Martinez Laiz is a Postdoctoral researcher at University of Seville
(Spain) and visiting academic for a year at Deakin University (Australia).
Gemma's research focuses on socioecological aspects of marine biosecurity.
She's currently investigating public perceptions on biological invasions
associated to recreational boating, with the ultimate goal of informing
effective environmental education strategies and fair regulations for pest
control across the boating sector.

She has a background in marine biology, invasive species and ecology of
Peracarid crustaceans. She received a Bachelor's degree in Biology from
University of Seville (Spain) (2010-2014) and a Masters degree in Marine
Biodiversity and Conservation from the joint European Program EMBC (organised
by 11 European Universities) (2014-2016). She completed her 4-year PhD on
February 2022 at University of Seville with cum laude distinction. Her
research focused on preventive management of the recreational boating vector
in the Iberian Peninsula and the Mediterranean Sea, hotspots for nautical
tourism where biosecurity implementation is still lacking. She has research
experience in Spain, Italy, Portugal, Canada, Australia and New Zealand; and
is teaching staff at University of Seville since 2018.
