BIO

Available for casual/part-time research assistant and scholarly editing roles.

Margaret Jakovac (Paton) is a writer, educator, and researcher with extensive experience in transcription, interviewing, research communication, and policy writing, and developing experience in literature review and data management.

Her doctoral work (to be completed by the end of 2028) investigates how out-of-field mathematics and science teachers in Australia define and sustain professional success. She is exploring this through media analysis, policy review, teacher interviews, and online discourse drawn from Reddit.

She has been a corporate writer for six Australian universities and one Singaporean university, and has produced policy, research, and communication materials across education, government, and professional contexts. Margaret can contribute to research projects through transcription, interviewing, literature review, editing, costing support for Category 2–4 grants, and policy document analysis — all consistent with the Faculty’s guidelines for research assistant activities.

Research papers under review:

Submitted late August 2025 to the Australian Educational Researcher:

  • Constructing success, contesting legitimacy: Media and policy discourses on out-of-field teaching in Australian schools

  • A Scoping Review Style Literature Review of Netnographies Exploring K–12 Teacher Identity and Agency
