BIO
Dr Melanie Lum is a Research Fellow at Global Centre for Preventive Health and Nutrition (GLOBE) within the Institute for Health Transformation at Deakin University. Her research focuses on promoting the healthy development of children attending early childhood education and care, using implementation science methods. She has expertise undertaking randomised controlled trials, large scale cross-sectional studies and high-quality systematic reviews, primarily examining the implementation of strategies to improve the healthy eating, physical activity and social and emotional learning of children aged 0-5 years.
Dr Lum aims to collaborate with interest-holders to co-design, co-deliver and co-disseminate public health research efforts. She has worked closely with a number of government and non-government health organisations to achieve this goal. She has experience working as a Health Promotion Officer within Hunter New England Population Health, where she conducted translational research. She has also worked on two tenders (leading one) to review state-wide health promotion programs to inform future prevention efforts.
Dr Lum currently supervises one PhD student.
