RESEARCH INTERESTS
The focus of my research is around the role that physical activity can play in supporting mental health and wellbeing, specifically trauma with a particular interest in populations of women, LGBTQIA+ and other under-researched / supported communities.
My PhD seeks to explore an alternative / adjunctive approach to supporting the mental and physical health, wellbeing and recovery from intimate partner violence (IPV) – specifically by developing a co-designed trauma-informed cardio-boxing program. This will involve conducting a range of qualitative interviews with both victim-survivors and different professionals who support them in their recovery. I want to understand what would make the program safe for participants and also translatable into the real world, where it might be able to make a real difference in women's lives. Those insights will inform the design and delivery of the pilot feasibility study which allow us to test impact of our trauma-informed cardio-boxing program on the mental and physical recovery of victim-survivors. I also hope that it will provide us with rich data around trauma and violence-informed practice / care within a physical activity setting.
