BIO

Ali Fogarty (Clinical PhD) is a clinical psychologist and Deakin Postdoctoral Research Fellow within the Centre for Social and Early Emotional Development at Deakin University. She co-leads the Family Health and Wellbeing Team at Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and the Resilience and Prevention research stream in the Stronger Futures Centre of Research Excellence into Intergenerational Trauma. Ali’s research focuses on understanding the impact of adversity and trauma such as intimate partner violence and child maltreatment on children and families and how families can be best supported to promote health and wellbeing. Ali is a Chief Investigator the Mothers’ and Young People’s study which currently undertaking a 18-year follow-up aiming to investigate the long-term and intergenerational impacts of family violence and adversity on the mental health of young people, including potential pathways for intervention. Ali also leads several projects which partner with local community health services to improve health service interventions aimed at strengthening families and parenting within the early years, reduce exposure to family violence, and promote child health and wellbeing.
