RESEARCH INTERESTS

Jay has a broad area of interests, including young adult literature, disability studies, LGBTQIA+ literature, film and television, comics and graphic novels, genre fiction, children's literature, and much more.

 

They are currently working on their PhD thesis: Silence Speaks Volumes: Representations fo Nonverbalism in Young Adult Fiction. Their thesis is a close reading literary anlaysis which investigates the representations of nonverbalism and non-speaking characters in young adult novels.

 

Their Honours thesis - Finding "Home": Trauma and Identity in Young Adult Dystopian Fiction - explored how trauma and setting in dystopian novels such as The Maze Runner series impacts the development of the character's identity and their sense of belonging.
