BIO
Samantha's research is primarily focused on sharks and rays through (1) fisheries management, (2) international trade policy, (3) extinction risk, and (4) ecology. She has been a key member of several global projects aiming to understand current shark and ray population statuses, risks, management, and trends. Much of her career has focused on ecology of tropical species in Southeast Asia and she is passionate about working collaboratively with international partners. Since joining Deakin University, her research interests have extended to include projects with local scopes, including ecology and movement of temperate sharks and rays in Port Phillip Bay and fisheries management of other Victorian species. Samantha is proud to have contributed to projects that have influenced policy changes and continues to focus her research with policy in mind.
