BIO
My main research concerns the application of genomics to the genetic improvement of fish and shellfish in aquaculture. Latest applications include the use of genomic selection and CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing for improving host disease resistance (e.g. to white spot syndrome virus in shrimp and to sea lice in Atlantic salmon). I have over 30 years’ experience with the genetic improvement of livestock and aquaculture species, holding more than 60 research grants and consultancies working in Norway, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Canada, USA, Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, China, Japan, South Africa, Mozambique, Colombia, Hungary, Russia and Portugal, and authoring of over 90 journal publications and book chapters with my many collaborators around the world.
