BIO

Professor Trevor Day is Executive Dean of Deakin University's Faculty of
Science, Engineering & Built Environment.
Professor Day completed a PhD in neurobiology at Flinders University
(Adelaide) in 1981 and then undertook postdoctoral training in Canada,
spending three years at McGill University and a year at the University of
Western Ontario. He subsequently held staff appointments at the University of
Otago Medical School (1986-1990), the University of Queensland (1990-2003),
and the University of Newcastle (2003-2012). At Newcastle he was Professor of
Anatomy and also served for six years as Head of the School of Biomedical
Sciences & Pharmacy, one of that institution's largest and most research-
intensive Schools. He joined Deakin University in March 2012.
His career has involved a balance of activities in research and teaching. Most
of his research has concerned the characterisation of brain mechanisms that
underpin adaptive responses to physical and psychological stress. This work
has been supported by peer-reviewed research funding from agencies in
Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Germany and the United States. He has served
as a member of several nationally competitive grant review panels, and as a
member of the editorial board of the international journal "Stress".

With regard to teaching, Professor Day holds a postgraduate qualification in
Education and has been the recipient of several teaching awards and grants. He
has a very keen interest in academic staff development and while at the
University of Queensland he served as interim Director of that institution's
Tertiary and Educational Development Institute. While at University of
Newcastle he established Mentor@UoN, that institution's mentoring program for
early career academics.
