BIO

Dr Shima Jafarzadeh is a Research Fellow at Deakin University. Dr Jafarzadeh’s research program addresses two major societal, economic and environmental challenges, plastic pollution and food/organic waste utilisation, by developing high-performance biodegradable polymers and sustainable materials derived from organic by-products. She integrates polymer and material science, green chemistry, and circular economy principles to advance next-generation sustainable materials and packaging solutions, while also developing intelligent and functional biodegradable systems that address real-world constraints in durability, processability, and performance.
She has authored about 75 peer-reviewed journal publications. Dr Jafarzadeh has also been recognised in the “World’s Top 2% Scientists list in both 2024 and 2025.
