BIO

Dr. Shea Fan is an Associate Professor in Human Resource Management at Deakin Business School, Melbourne, Australia. She holds a PhD in Management from the University of Melbourne. Her previous academic positions include roles at Nottingham University, Ningbo, China, and RMIT University.

 

Dr. Fan’s research examines how organizations and managers can design work and practices that enable employees to thrive and realise their full potential in contemporary work environments. Her research spans international management and human resource management, with a strong focus on understanding employees’ experiences and relational dynamics at work. In particular, she has established research expertise in global careers, workplace loneliness, work extremity, migrant employees, implicit bias, and identity development and construction.

 

Dr. Fan’s research has appeared in top-tier international management journals, including the Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS), Journal of World Business (JWB), and Human Resource Management (HRM). Her work has also been widely featured in major media outlets, including The Conversation, The Times, Business News Australia, ABC Radio, Human Resource Director, and HR Daily.

 

Dr. Fan has been successful in winning competitive research grants funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and leading philanthropic organisations, including the Ian Potter Foundation and Telematics.

 

Research Groups: Member of the Deakin Centre for Refugee Employment, Advocacy, Training and Education (CREATE) and the Deakin SME Research Centre.
