BIO

Dr Alice Witt (she/her) is a Lecturer in the Deakin Law School, Faculty of Business and Law at Deakin University, and an Australian lawyer admitted by the Supreme Court of Queensland. She researches the exercise of governing power in the digital age, focusing on the intersections of regulation, technology and gender. A key focus of Alice’s research is helping to address the national and global problem of gender-based violence. For example, she is the co-creator of ‘Umibot’: a free chatbot that provides information, support and general advice to Australian victim-survivors and bystanders of image-based abuse (the non-consensual taking, creating or sharing of intimate images (photos or videos), including threats to share images). In addition to contributions to edited volumes, Alice's socio-legal work has appeared in journals such as the UNSW Law JournalSocial & Legal StudiesArtificial Intelligence and Law, and Feminist Media Studies. She also teaches, develops and coordinates undergraduate and postgraduate law units, including Legal Practice and Ethics.
