BIO

I love universities and I want to make them better. In my role, I try to make life better for academics. These days, I try to make life better for academics at Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. Previously, I've spent my time helping academics at the University of Melbourne (science) and RMIT University (social science and humanities) to find funding for their research.

My colleague Tseen Khoo and I manage the Research Whisperer blog, about doing research in academia. You can also find us talking about Research Whisperer stuff on LinkedIn.

My PhD looked at academics that have crowdfunded their research. Deakin University were pioneers in this, along with the University of Western Australia. It's a tough gig, but some people have made it work.
