BIO
Emmanuel Massay is a Doctoral Student in the Faculty of Health, School of Psychology, whose research focuses on autism, neurodiversity, and disability inclusion in Sub-Saharan Africa. His academic interests span autism knowledge and awareness, cultural beliefs, healthcare practices, stigma, and policy development. He is committed to informing policy and practice through culturally grounded and ethically approved research. His current doctoral project, conducted under the Health Autistic Life Lab, “Knowledge and Awareness of Autism in Tanzania: Perspectives of Parents of Autistic Children and Healthcare Practitioners,” explores how cultural beliefs shape understandings of autism and caregiving practices. By centering local voices and Indigenous Knowledge Systems, his work seeks to inform policies and bridge research, practice, and policy in Tanzania, while contributing to global conversations on inclusion and transformation.
