MrTahir Idrees

Mr. Tahir Idrees is a Lecturer in Journalism in Pakistan's Higher Education Department, where he has served since 2017. He has also worked as a Visiting Faculty member in the Department of Communication and Media Studies at the University of Sargodha, Pakistan. He served as a member of the Department's Board of Studies for three years and has recently been elected as an HDR Representative and member of the Faculty Board (Arts and Education) at Deakin University, Australia. He also works as a Sessional Academic in the School of Communication and Creative Arts (SCCA) at Deakin University.

He completed his M.Phil. in Mass Communication with distinction and is currently pursuing a PhD in the School of Communication at Deakin University, Australia. His doctoral research examines climate journalism and environmental communication in climate-vulnerable countries of the Global South, taking Pakistan as a case study. His broader research interests include environmental journalism, climate communication, media representations of environmental issues, and journalism practices in the Global South.

In recognition of his academic achievements and potential, he has received several competitive scholarships and fellowships, including the Deakin University Postgraduate Research (DUPR) Scholarship, the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) Scholarship, the Türkiye Bursları Scholarship, the Salamti Fellowship, and the inaugural BRIDGE Fellowship at Deakin University. These awards and fellowships reflect his academic achievements and commitment to interdisciplinary learning, research, and engagement.

He has also been actively involved in academic event organisation and scholarly community building. He served as an Organising Committee Member for the 2026 Graduate-Led Conference at Deakin University's Faculty of Arts and Education and as a Convening Committee Member for the inaugural School of Communication and Creative Arts (SCCA) Student-Led Conference at Deakin University. He currently serves on the Member Selection Committee for the International Environmental Communication Association's (IECA) Conference on Communication and Environment (COCE), contributing to the association's international academic activities and conference development.

Alongside his academic career, he has contributed to journalism and community engagement through writing for newspapers and hosting a community radio programme for three years. He has authored four research publications in academic journals and presented his work at various national and international conferences, including the International Conference of Social Sciences (Türkiye), the Graduate-Led Conference (Australia), the Conference on Communication and Environment (COCE) (Australia), and the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) Conference (Singapore).
