BIO

Hieu Trinh obtained his BEng (Hons), MEngSc, PhD degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, all from The University of Melbourne, Australia in 1990, 1992 and 1996. From Jan-Dec 1996, he was a post-doc in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, The University of Melbourne. He was a lecturer in the School of Engineering, James Cook University from 1997 till 2000. He then joined Deakin University in Jan 2001 where he is currently a Full Professor. His current research activities include systems and control theory, fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control, robotics, application of control theory to industrial systems and power systems. He has won some national competitive research grants (ARC-DPs, ARC-LPs) to conduct his research interests.  Hieu Trinh authored two research books: Functional Observers for Dynamical Systems (Springer, 2012); Unknown Inputs Estimation in Linear Time-Delay Systems Using Generalized Functional Observers (Springer, 2026), and about 250 refereed journal papers. 

Hieu Trinh is also a dedicated Lecturer who is very passionate about transferring his knowledge of control engineering to the next generation of engineers and PhD researchers at Deakin University. For this, he has received some recognitions for excellence in teaching from the offices of the Dean and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Deakin University.
