BIO

Norma Barrett is a Lecturer in Public Health and Health Promotion at Deakin University, where she provides leadership in Health Sciences education. Her work focuses on enhancing graduate employability, digital capability, and inclusive learning practices. With extensive experience in large-scale online education and curriculum design, she has helped shape the learning experiences of thousands of Health Sciences students.
 
Based at Deakin's Warrnambool campus, Norma has played a key role in supporting Health Sciences students across regional and online settings. She has held a range of leadership roles, including Health Sciences Course Coordinator at Warrnambool and Director of the Bachelor of Health Sciences degrees (H300 and D391). 

 

A Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Norma's leadership in higher education has been recognised through University and national awards, including an Australian Award for University Teaching and Deakin University's Vice-Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Achievement in Teaching and Learning.

 

Norma's research focuses on the transition to parenthood, family wellbeing, and the ways in which health and community services support parents and families. She is also a confirmed PhD candidate, with doctoral research exploring parents' experiences of maternity care and health service quality. Her research has informed policy, professional practice, and service development, and has attracted widespread media interest. Her work has featured across national media, including ABC Radio, ABC Life Matters, and the Herald Sun.
