BIO

Dr Nils Widmaier is an Associate Research Fellow at the Institute for Frontier Materials, specialising in carbon fibres and composite technologies. His work focuses on advancing high-performance materials for renewable energy applications, including next-generation wind turbine blades, through close collaboration with industry partners.

He holds a PhD in advanced composites, with research centred on optimising high-volume preforming and forming techniques in fully automated manufacturing processes using bindered dry-fibre tapes, as well as the development, production, and testing of carbon fibres and composites. With a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering and a strong background in composite material testing, Nils is committed to translating cutting-edge materials research into scalable solutions for energy, transport, and infrastructure sectors.
