DrMegan Beatrice

Megan Beatrice is a Lecturer in Law at Deakin Law School. Megan's doctoral thesis, titled 'Incarcerating First Nations Women: An Intersectional Analysis', expanded the traditional two-point intersectional lens to account for the three-point intersection of race, gender, and colonialism that underpins the crisis of incarceration for First Nations women. Megan's published research seeks to look differently at socio-legal problems, usually taking a post-structural feminist and Fouculadian approach to issues of criminal law, society, and the carceral state. 

Megan has experience teaching across a range of units in both the LLB and JD programmes, including a number of Priestly-11 units. These include units on Criminal Law, Contract Law, and Property Law. Megan also has experience teaching units on Jurisprudence. 

Megan is a Managing Editor of the Australian Feminist Law Journal, a peer-reviewed journal which publishes scholarship on feminist approaches to law and justice, broadly conceived. Megan is also an International Adviser at the International Journal for the Semiotics of Law - Revue internationale de Sémiotique juridique and co-editor of Section 32: Indigenous Peoples' Rights and the Pursuit of Justice in the forthcoming International Handbook of Legal Language and Communication: From Text to Semiotics (Springer).

Megan was admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria in 2021.
