BIO
Kate Davis is a PhD student at Deakin University, whose research examines the representations of historical figures in anachronistic popular media. Under the guidance of Dr Sarah Pinto and Associate Professor Clare Corbould, Kate’s project will examine the relationship that anachronistic historical representations have with the past, how they create authenticity in their depictions of historical figures, and how these texts highlight the continuity of experiences across the past and into the present.
A skilled librarian with experience in special collection management, Kate is an advocate for public engagement in all forms of history. She is particularly interested in popular histories that explore the past experiences of women and queer people. Her honours thesis, submitted in 2024, explored the representation of the six wives of Henry VIII in Six: The Musical and examined how the text intertwined historical interpretations and contemporary elements to present an imagined version of each woman within a 21st-century context.
