BIO
I am a public health researcher and PhD candidate undertaking a cotutelle between Deakin University (Australia) and Ghent University (Belgium). My research examines the commercial determinants of health, with a focus on how the gambling industry shapes health equity, public policy and the lives of young people.
Before commencing my PhD, I worked in regional Victoria as a Senior Population and Prevention Health Officer. My practice experience highlighted the importance of the social, political and commercial conditions that influence health, and continues to inform my research.
My research explores the normalisation of gambling, the commercial and political strategies used by industry to influence public perceptions and policy, and the implications these have for young people's health and wellbeing. Using qualitative methods including interviews, focus groups and youth advisory approaches.
My long-term research interest is understanding how commercial interests shape health and public policy, and generating evidence that supports governments in developing policies that promote healthier and more equitable communities.
